An attacker with physical access can use the embedded credential to gain privileged bootloader access, enabling unauthorized firmware and configuration modification and potentially full device compromise. The flaw carries a CVSS v3 score of 6.8, reflecting the physical-access requirement.
Hard-coded credentials are a recurring identity weakness in IoT and embedded devices: because the secret is baked into firmware, it cannot be rotated by the operator and is identical across all units, making it a durable backdoor. While exploitation here needs local access, compromised cameras can serve as pivot points into networks and undermine trust in any identity or monitoring controls that depend on those devices.
What to take away: treat embedded devices as untrusted identity endpoints—segment them from AD and sensitive infrastructure, restrict physical access, and monitor for firmware or configuration tampering, since baked-in credentials can’t simply be reset.
